My name is Derrick Lewis and I launched a company in Asheville called “Making IT Work, LLC”. This company is a direct response to the growing need due to COVID-19 and other factors that force Everyone to operate in a Virtual World. So, this is our New Normal, and what I have seen with my brilliant, tech-savvy, 10-year-old daughter, who now has to attend her beloved school “virtually”. In order to do that she needs a computer, webcam, mike, and access to the internet just to show up for class. Then she gets to be a student by getting to class on time, doing her homework, checking the changing weekly schedules, and presenting to the class in Google Meet. It is quite a monumental undertaking.
This is the same challenge that practically every type of organization has to face: businesses, agencies, school, etc. in our community now. We all have to figure out how to do IT virtually. This is the world we live in. So, Making IT Work takes on the responsibility of discovering the deployment problems that every type of school, company, agency, or family is having in this new normal.
Utilizing my 35 years of IT Integration experience with various sectors across the nation, Making IT Work will connect the leaders, stakeholders, providers, and partners representing each to come up with solutions that work. We will take the approved solutions and leverage an enterprise provisioning model to get bulk pricing, batch deployments, central maintenance, and the like. Nothing is easy; however, we intend to collaborate with the wisdom keepers and help get the teachers, small-business owners, and agencies back to doing what they do best, like teaching, helping others, running your business, or just living your life.

I could not find a better one showing what it is like for students suddenly losing access to their world…
